Eagles DE Derek Barnett Unlikely to Be Suspended for Dirty Hit on Packers RB Jamaal Williams
By Chris Pyo

Based on what transpired early on in Thursday Night Football, it was safe to assume Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Derek Barnett would receive some sort of punishment for his tone-setting cheap shot on Green Bay Packers running back Jamaal Williams, causing Williams to exit the game on a stretcher.
But perhaps those who anticipated action had too much faith in the league.
It's now being reported that Barnett won't be receiving any sort of suspension from the league. Instead, he'll simply be fined.
Eagles’ DE Derek Barnett is unlikely to be suspended for his hit last night on Packers’ RB Jamal Williams, per source. Barnett could be fined, but he likely will be spared a suspension because at the last moment, he turned and hit Williams with his shoulder.

Here's a video of the hit on Williams. Judge for yourself how dirty of a last-second hit it was.
Dirty and late hit by #Eagles DE Derek Barnett. #Packers RB Jamaal Williams had to be taken off on a stretcher. Just unnecessary. pic.twitter.com/6TDDYlKzXy

The league's justification for not suspending Barnett, according to Adam Schefter, is that he turned away at the last second and hit Williams with his shoulder. Instead of what alternative?
After the referees failed to eject Barnett from the game, it seemed like he was back to his headhunting antics, as evidenced by this hit on Davante Adams, who would later exit the game with a toe turf injury.
After sending #Packers Jamaal Williams to the hospital and fake apologizing to him while he was on the stretcher #Eagles Derek Barnett continues to headhunt.

Let's check out Adams last catch. Barnett (#96) launches himself instead of trying to wrap up. Get him out of the game. pic.twitter.com/wq5ESQQB4n
The NFL is still allowing players like Derek Barnett to get away with these types of plays when player safety is supposedly important to the league. Instead, we're witnessing more incompetence in dealing with a problem that's threatening the future of the game.
