Apparently the Person Pushing Eagles-Clowney Rumors is a Complete Joke Based on Past 'Reports'
By Jerry Trotta
Oh, how the tables have turned.
A rumor popped up on Saturday which indicated the Philadelphia Eagles submitted a contract offer to free agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. That source of that report was Dan Sileo, a former defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who has since transitioned to a career in sports talk radio.
However, ever-reliable Twitter soldiers dug into the archives and found some old receipts which suggest that Sileo's hunch is anything but reliable. He's the same individual that's previously claimed the Eagles were in on quarterback Tom Brady, plus wide receivers Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham Jr. and AJ Green.
Folks, all of Sileo's "reports" have come within the last seven months. Our guess is that he considers Philadelphia a potential landing spot as soon as rumors emerge about a player butting heads with their current franchise.
The Eagles never came close to landing any of the aforementioned four superstars, and while they might be in on the the Clowney sweepstakes, Sileo's report of a contract being extended isn't trustworthy anymore.
Philadelphia already has a surplus of talent on its defensive line. Why would the the Eagles jettison the majority of their $22.27 million in cap space on a player they don't need? Wide receiver and the secondary remain a serious liability for the organization.
Sorry, Philly fans. But you can go ahead and flush all of the excitement you generated from this latest Clowney rumor.
