Eagles Must Find a Way to Sign Larry Warford After Brandon Brooks Injury
By Michael Luciano
The Philadelphia Eagles' offensive line is one of the best in the league from top to bottom. Unfortunately, the most important part of that offensive line suffered a career-altering injury that ended his 2020 season before it even began.
Right guard Brandon Brooks, PFF's second-highest graded offensive player at any position last year, tore his Achilles tendon and won't play a down next year.
The only free agent that could even hold a candle to Brooks is former New Orleans Saints star Larry Warford, and the Eagles need to make this deal happen as soon as possible.
Warford was released after the Saints drafted Michigan's Cesar Ruiz in the first round, but that was for salary cap purposes. The veteran has been to three straight Pro Bowls, just like Brooks.
Warford was once a member of the Detroit Lions, coached by Eagles DC Jim Schwartz, and was mentored by offensive line coach Jeremiah Washburn, who also works for the Eagles in their front office. That familiarity, plus the Pro Bowl-sized hole in an offensive line that will likely make it to the playoffs in the 2020 season, should convince Warford to sign with the Eagles over several other competitive offers.
The Eagles have a monumental task ahead of them with regards to replacing a player of Brooks' caliber, and the only way to do that adequately is to lure Warford to Philadelphia.
