ESPN insider Adam Schefter revealed on Wednesday that Alabama star Jerry Jeudy, who's widely regarded as the top prospect in a loaded wide receiver class, is dealing with a "lingering knee issue" that could affect his draft stock. I wonder who could be behind such a leak?
Talk about bad timing.
It's worth noting that the initial report came from two Philadelphia-based reporters. Is it possible that Eagles GM Howie Roseman is creating a news leak so that Jeudy falls to him at pick No. 21?
Schefter's full quote indicates that the Philadelphia media is attempting to make the injury much more serious than it really is.
"Look, ‘losing stock’ might be strong. Instead of 13, does he go 17? Maybe. But I think teams are going to like him or not like him, period. It’s a situation where I don’t think it’s going to have a dramatic effect on his stock," said Schefter on 97.5 the Fanatic.
Jeudy's agent Chris Cabott even came forward with a statement in which he insinuated that the leak was created as a smokescreen to deter other teams from drafting the Crimson Tide product.
The voice of reason here appears to be Schefter, who is clearly the least biased of the parties involved.
The bottom line is that fans shouldn't be shocked if Jeudy is drafted a little later than expected and another WR is selected ahead of him.
However, the ethics involved in impacting the draft dreams of an NFL prospect for your own benefit are cloudy to say the least.
