Eagles Losing RB Jordan Howard to Dolphins Proves Move Was a Waste of a Trade
By Brendan Balsamo

On March 28, 2019, the Philadelphia Eagles traded a sixth-round draft pick to the Chicago Bears for running back Jordan Howard.
On Tuesday, Howard signed with the Miami Dolphins for a two-year deal north of $10 million. What is now clear is that the Eagles wasted a trade on Howard.

Despite only having to pay the 25-year old running back $2 million in 2019 on the tail end of his rookie contract, Howard just couldn't stay healthy in his time in Philly. He only played in 10 games and of those 10, he only started in four of them.
With the Eagles, he only averaged 4.4 yards per carry on 119 carries, but showed flashes of the elite player he was in 2016 and 2017.

If Howard found a way to stay on the field in 2019 without getting injured, the trade would probably have been worth it and Howard might have re-signed with the Eagles for 2020. However, the Eagles instead threw a pick out the window in this trade, and Howard now gets to move on to a new adventure in sunny Miami.
