Eagles Missing Out on Darius Slay is Way Worse Than Flopping on Josh Gordon
By Jerry Trotta
There have been some significant rumblings formulating in the City of Brotherly Love on Friday, and we honestly have no idea why they are transpiring.
The Philadelphia Eagles missed out on claiming Josh Gordon off waivers, as the exiled Patriot landed with the Seattle Seahawks, and fans are upset.
Sure, production from the wide receiver position has been lacking this season, but the problems in their secondary are FAR more worrisome. The fact of the matter is that the Eagles missing out on Detroit Lions stud cornerback Darius Slay is the real loss here.
Gordon is an imposing talent that would alleviate the burden on Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz in the passing game, but have fans not noticed that Philly is slowly morphing into a run-dominant offense?
The one-two punch of Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders can be one of the best running back tandems in the NFL, and their performance last Sunday against the Bills served as a testament to that notion.
Gordon would have been a nice perk, but he wouldn't have filled a dire need. Through eight weeks, the Eagles rank 20th in the league in terms of passing yards allowed per game, with a 256.1 mark. They also rank 25th in the league when it comes to total passing yards allowed with a whopping 2,049.
Slay wouldn't have cured all of their woes, but he's a top-tier corner in the prime of his career at 28-years-old. Philadelphia missed out on Jalen Ramsey and one-upped that blunder by not being aggressive enough in the Slay sweepstakes.
That is simply an unforgivable offense.
