The Eagles Need to Trade Alshon Jeffery During the Draft or Else It'll Never Happen
By Brady Williams
In the years following his Super Bowl-winning campaign, Alshon Jeffery just hasn't taken the next step in Philadelphia. He was supposed to be their No. 1 guy for years moving forward, but he racked up only 490 receiving yards in 10 injury-marred games last season. Between his poor play, numerous injuries, and locker room issues, they very clearly need to get rid of him. Releasing Jeffery would result in a $26 million dead cap hit, so Philly should continue to hurtle towards trading him. However, with the draft rapidly approaching, time may be running out.
He's considered one of the most likely players to get traded during the draft, and if that proves to be wrong, he's likely to be stuck on the roster (and firmly in Carson Wentz's doghouse).
Philly's last hope for working out a deal to get rid of Jeffery may be during desperation time tonight, and if they can get a few late picks to move up in the draft and select their choice wideout, it will absolutely be worth it.
The draft is deep with receivers, and if they can move Jeffery to jump up high enough to snag someone like Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb, they'll have upgraded their receiving corps while purging the dead weight.
Outside of the draft, the Eagles are looking at some shaky deals for mid-tier guys. There's more value in a draft pick than in the kind of veteran players the Eagles could get out of a Jeffery trade. After all, the Eagles have already paid for him. If they can't move up in the draft, they're better off just hanging onto the troubled wideout.
