Eagles Offer to Host Remainder of NJ High School Football Game After Tragic Shooting
By Jerry Trotta
Chaos struck at a New Jersey high school football game between Camden and Pleasantville High on Friday night as several gunshots were fired in the bleachers that saw three individuals left injured.
The victims' wounds weren't considered life threatening and they were subsequently taken to the hospital to undergo further tests. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported.
As expected, the game was suspended and it was announced that it would be resumed at a later date. Well, in a tremendous act of benevolence, the Philadelphia Eagles have offered up Lincoln Financial Field to host the remainder of the game.
The resumption is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon and members of both teams are permitted to invite family members to attend the game. Lincoln Financial Field is roughly 50 miles from Pleasantville High School, and the game, for obvious reasons, will NOT be open to the public.
Larry White, the executive director of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association extended his gratitude toward the Eagles organization in a heartfelt statement.
"Thanks to the Eagles’ generosity and community spirit, Pleasantville and Camden student-athletes and their families will have an opportunity to write their own ending to this game. They’ll compete on a world-class stage, sending a clear message that violence will not win.”
It goes without saying that all parties involved haven't fully recovered from the nightmarish experience, but the Eagles have graciously presented them the opportunity to take a giant step closer in doing so.
