This Eagles-Rams Trade Involving Brandin Cooks and Malik Jackson Could Actually Work
By Michael Luciano
The Los Angeles Rams are in the process of remaking the roster now that Todd Gurley is an Atlanta Falcon and deep threat wide receiver Brandin Cooks has cropped up on the trade market.
After only catching 42 passes for 583 yards last season, the Rams are willing to part with their expensive wide receiver for just a mid-round pick, per reports.
The Philadelphia Eagles need warm bodies to catch passes from Carson Wentz, and Cooks could further accentuate the vertical elements of the Eagles' offense.
Defensive tackle Malik Jackson barely got on the field for Philadelphia last season, and the $17 million in dead cap that the Eagles will incur based on his contract is nothing short of tragic. In order to get off the hook for the rest of Jackson's deal, he could go to Los Angeles for picks. LA needs to offer a mid-round pick (presumably a 5th) to Philly, however, as Jackson can still play at a high level when healthy and Philly will absorb a $16.8 million cap hit from Cooks.
The Jackson contract has quickly turned into an albatross that Howie Roseman wants to shed more than anything in the world at this moment. If he can do that while fixing the Eagles' holes at wide receiver by adding a player as accomplished as Cooks, Philly should be in good shape to repeat as champions of the NFC East.
