Eagles Re-Sign Darren Sproles to 1-Year Contract
By Michael Luciano
Darren Sproles is going to be playing football long after everyone else in the league is gone.
The 36-year-old running back and return man is coming back for his sixth season as a Philadelphia Eagle, signing a one-year deal to return to Lincoln Financial Field.
A former fourth-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, Sproles has piled up 3,486 and 4,816 yards with the Chargers, Saints and Eagles. With nine return touchdowns also on his resume, the three-time Pro Bowler is one of the best all-purpose players in the history of the game.
Last season, Sproles ran for 120 yards and piled up 160 receiving yards. He's not a starter at this juncture, but he's a more than adequate change of pace for both Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders.
In an age where running backs who can be effective past the age of 30 are becoming a dying breed, Sproles could still have a role on a championship team at age 36.
