Eagles Receivers Not Scoring a TD Since Week 6 Proves Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz Are to Blame
Week 12 of the NFL season has just about concluded, and it's been a month and a half since an Eagles wide receiver has scored a touchdown.
While many will point to injuries and drops, the wideouts simply aren't to blame for this. Carson Wentz and Doug Pederson should largely be held accountable for this. For a tag team comprised of a supposed MVP-caliber quarterback and Super Bowl-winning coach, that number is absolutely unacceptable.
While the Eagles have been down a number of weapons at the wide receiver spot -- Nelson Agholor and Alshon Jeffery are among the notable names who have missed games this season -- it's hard to justify not being able to find a single receiver for a TD over that span.
We've seen countless QBs deal with injuries to key weapons but manage to deliver in some way. Over that six-week span (five games), the Eagles have scored 10 or fewer points three times and Wentz has just five touchdowns compared to three INTs and five lost fumbles.
While Wentz hasn't been great, it's also Pederson's fault given his clear inability to establish a run game. The Eagles are far from a pass-first team, which means their offense has to rely on a good balance with the run. There should be no excuse either considering Philly has plenty of help in the backfield and one of the best offensive lines in the league (despite dealing with injuries the last couple weeks).
This has been an issue all season and it's time the Eagles figure it out before they're watching the playoffs from home.
