Eagles Reportedly Cut Veteran DB Orlando Scandrick After Shot in the Dark
By Adam Weinrib
You win some, you lose some when you mess with veterans on their last legs.
Desperate to find any steadying presence whatsoever in a secondary marred by injuries (thinning out an already-thin corps), the Eagles attempted to make due with 32-year-old Orlando Scandrick at the tail end of July.
On Friday, as anticipated, that experiment came to an end.
Thanks to his vested veteran status, Scandrick could return in Week 2, as Ian Rapoport notes. But based on his struggle-filled tenure in Kansas City last year, where he toiled on one of the worst pass defenses the modern game has seen, we're not sure he's the ointment to what ails Philly.
Scandrick, as of now, won't appear in a regular season game for his third of four NFC East teams; he started his career with the Cowboys in 2008, before eventually finding his way to the Redskins.
Though the Eagles' secondary is filled with plenty of lottery tickets, Scandrick is much more of a proven, botched commodity.
