Eagles Reportedly Receive Encouraging Carson Wentz Injury Update at OTAs
By Brian Cass
If there's one wish that every Philadelphia Eagles fan has going into this season, it's that their franchise QB, Carson Wentz, stays upright for all 16 games.
Going into OTAs, head coach Doug Pederson didn't reveal anything about Wentz's progression with the back injury that ended his 2018 campaign, leading fans to think he wasn't fully healthy yet. But it seems like the QB has progressed nicely and will be a full participant in OTAs.
This has to be so relieving for the Eagles organization and its fans. With Nick Foles no longer in town to bail them out when Wentz is hurt, they absolutely need Wentz to stay healthy all season this year.
Coming off a torn ACL from the previous season, Wentz had an up-and-down year in 2018 before being place on injured reserve. In 11 games last season, Wentz threw 21 touchdowns to just 7 interceptions with a QB rating of 102.2.
Those aren't bad numbers by any means, but watching him throughout the season, it was clear that he wasn't the same player we had seen in 2017. If he had stayed healthy that year, it's likely he would've taken home the MVP award.
With this back injury now seemingly behind him, Wentz should be in for another big season in 2019. If he comes out and plays like the MVP that he nearly was in 2017, the Birds could find themselves in a similar position that they were in at the end of that season -- in the Super Bowl.
