Eagles Reportedly Sign OL Brandon Brooks to Massive Contract Extension
By Jerry Trotta
The Philadelphia Eagles waited a day after their bye week ended to make it official, but they have now locked up one of the NFL's best offensive linemen to a lucrative contract extension.
Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday afternoon that the Eagles and OG Brandon Brooks agreed to a four-year $54.2 million extension, which includes $30 million in guaranteed money.
This deal makes the 30-year-old Brooks the highest-paid guard in the league.
Brooks' story is nothing short of uplifting as he suffered a torn Achilles tendon in January's playoff loss to the Saints in New Orleans. It was an injury that left many pundits thinking he wouldn't come close to returning to the dominant force he was. Even so, that injury normally comes with a 12-month recovery timetable.
In Brooks' case, however, he returned for the Eagles' season-opening clash against the Redskins. To make his comeback even more extraordinary is the fact that he's graded, per Pro Football Focus, as the the NFL's best offensive lineman through nine weeks of the 2019 campaign.
In fact, he's on pace to be one of the highest-rated RG's in the history of PFF for one calendar season.
We could go on for hours about Brooks' importance to Philadelphia, but the bottom line is that this contract is nothing less than he deserved.
