Eagles Prioritizing Rodney McLeod Over Malcolm Jenkins Should Infuriate Philly Fans
By Brendan Balsamo
Malcolm Jenkins made it clear that he wanted an extension with the Philadelphia Eagles after this season. He wanted to stay in the city where he had so much success for such a long time. So what do the Eagles do for one of their best defensive players?
They decide not to re-sign him and instead bring back another safety.
According to reports, the Eagles are re-signing safety Rodney McLeod after declining Jenkins' team option.
Why in the world would the Eagles prioritize McLeod over Jenkins? In his six years with Philly, Jenkins has 12 forced fumbles, 11 interceptions, 58 passes defended, and 515 combined tackles.
In McLeod's eight-year career, he has fewer forced fumbles, passes defended and tackles.
Jenkins has been fan-favorite for most of his career and it stinks for Eagles fans to see him go, especially when a lesser safety was prioritized over him. It's ridiculous, but it's not the first mistake Philly has made this offseason. The Eagles' front office has been spot-on the last few years, but they've kicked off the 2020 offseason very poorly.
