The Philadelphia Eagles still have bright, shining needs in their secondary and at wide receiver, but that's not the position they're reportedly looking to bolster following the NFL Draft.

According to the latest buzz, the Eagles are showing interest in running back Carlos Hyde, who remains a free agent following a 1,000-yard season with the Houston Texans.

Wh-why?

Just when you think Philadelphia is ready to hand the keys of the backfield to breakout rookie Miles Sanders, a report like this drops. Despite playing second fiddle to Jordan Howard for the majority of the season, Sanders was the Eagles' most productive running back last year. Once Howard went down with a stinger, the Penn State product burst onto the scene as the team's No. 1 RB.

In 16 games (11 starts), Sanders rushed 179 times for 818 yards (4.6 per) and three touchdowns. He added 50 receptions for 509 yards and three scores through the air. Those are the numbers of a player that's ready to assume the burden of a workhorse -- and don't forget what Boston Scott did, either.

Hyde would certainly provide a "power" complement to Sanders shiftiness, but signing him as a backup is a move we don't endorse, especially after Scott's emergence deep into the 2019 campaign.

We get that head coach Doug Pederson loves a committee at RB, but this is Sanders' backfield. The Eagles adding to their logjam at the position just wouldn't make much sense.
