Eagles Should Hurry Up and Stop Considering LeSean McCoy Before They Do Something Stupid
By Michael Luciano
LeSean McCoy was one of the best running backs in football over the last decade, topping 1,000 yards from scrimmage eight times in a row and 1,400 yards six times. Most of that success came under Andy Reid with the Philadelphia Eagles.
After four years with the Buffalo Bills, McCoy landed with the Kansas City Chiefs for one season, during which he backed up Damien Williams and ended up with a Super Bowl ring. The Eagles have considered bringing him back for one last go-around, but this seems like a very unnecessary move.
The Eagles have Miles Sanders, fresh off 1,327 yards from scrimmage as a rookie, ready to become the bell cow. Why bring McCoy into the mix?
Beyond Sanders, they have quality backups in Boston Scott and Corey Clement. Undrafted free agents like Cincinnati clydesdale Michael Warren and UCF speedster Adrian Killins have a good shot at making the roster. McCoy would be a 32-year-old running back that wouldn't move the needle much on an Eagles team with plenty of depth at that position.
An unchecked Howie Roseman has already used a top-60 pick on a backup quarterback, so signing a 32-year-old running back to take touches away from the 23-year-old isn't something so outrageous to him.
