Eagles Should Rescue Darius Slay From Lions Nightmare
By Scott Rogust
After a promising start to their season, the Detroit Lions have fallen into last place of the NFC North standings (yet again). If you were wondering what approach the Lions would take at the first sign of adversity, they answered it clearly by trading away safety and defensive captain Quandre Diggs to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2020 fifth-round pick on Tuesday.
Star cornerback Darius Slay expressed his frustration over seeing his teammate sent away on Twitter for millions of individuals to see. And if the Lions are hellbent on trading away their best players for assets, then they should look at moving Slay.
And there's one team who can save him: the Philadelphia Eagles.
It's no secret, even to the casual fan, that Philadelphia has a desperate need for a top-tier cornerback. The Eagles lost out on the opportunity of acquiring Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars last week to the Los Angeles Rams, deeming the cost too high.
Philadelphia's struggles in the pass defense department were exacerbated this past Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles looked completely unprepared, as Dak Prescott undressed them on numerous occasions.
Slay can cure what ails the Eagles secondary. Through five games this season, the 28-year-old has allowed 15 completions on 27 targets for just 189 yards and one touchdown. Not to mention, Slay has allowed just 24 yards after the catch this season. He's got the attitude and thump Philly is plainly missing.
The talk surrounding Slay for the better part of the past two seasons is his desire for a new contract. Slay is set to hit free agency following the 2020 season, and he's yet to enter negotiations with the Lions.
The Eagles have a championship window that's going to close in the near future, and they should by all means go all in and acquire Darius Slay, and save him from a nightmare in Detroit.
