Eagles Should Stay Away From Denzel Mims Due to Nelson Agholor-Like Drop Issues
By Scott Rogust

With the NFL Draft just a week away, teams are doing their final preparations and evaluations on prospective talents. For the Philadelphia Eagles, they've been doing plenty of homework on wide receivers, based off their need at the position and the relative deepness of this year's class.
One name that's been linked to the Eagles should effectively be crossed off general manager Howie Roseman's list.
On Wednesday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport revealed that teams are wavering on Baylor wideout Denzel Mims, who had drop issues throughout his junior season. But, the receiver claims that his incomplete catches were caused by a broken hand.
Interesting note on #Baylor WR Denzel Mims: One of his only questions revolves around some drops as a junior, and it turns out he played with a broken hand that season, I’m told. It’s an issue that’s come up as he’s had discussions with teams considering taking him.

Even if Mims is telling the truth, this is simply a risk the Eagles can't take, especially with their first-round pick.
Philadelphia has had its fair share of issues at the wide receiver position this past season, but one name that drew the ire of Eagles fans around the world was Nelson Agholor. Even though the receiver had strong 2017 and 2018 campaigns, he fell off a cliff last year. Agholor has notorious drop issues, and instantly became the subject of criticism and memes on social media.
#Baylor WR Denzel Mims has dropped 18 passes over the last two years.

12.9% Drop Rate over that time.
As always, if you bring a certain element to a passing game you can tolerate them. https://t.co/6hs8gBFdVQ
The Eagles allowed Agholor to join the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency, so why on Earth would they draft a receiver with similar drop issues to replace him? It just doesn't make sense.
Yes, Mims balled out in his senior season, as evidenced by his 66 receptions for 1,020 yards, and 12 touchdowns. But he has a history of failing to secure receptions and has a poor success rate making contested catches. Selecting Mims with the 21st overall pick isn't a wise decision for the Eagles, and they should look elsewhere for a more consistent pass catcher.
