Eagles Should Swoop in and Sign Jadeveon Clowney

Former Seattle Seahawks pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney is clearly the top remaining free agent available on the market, and it might be Clowney himself who is serving as the main reason for his continued unemployment

Clowney is seeking a multi-year deal worth around $20 million annually (theoretically, with a contender), which is a hefty commitment for someone coming off a bit of a disappointing season. His three sacks in 2019 could lower his price, which would make him a perfect signing for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Some might argue the Eagles are already set at edge rusher given, Brandon Graham on one side and Derek Barnett on the other, but that shouldn't prevent them from signing Clowney. The Eagles showed that they were able to effectively rotate pass rushers when they brought on Michael Bennett a couple seasons ago, so Jim Schwartz is likely to find ways to get all three on the field.

If he doesn't want to mix and match those three, trade Barnett for a nice draft pick return (as he's approaching a fifth-year option next season) and let Clowney go to work on one side, while Graham does the same on the other.

Clowney's numbers don't tell the story of how is one of the best defensive ends in all of football at pressuring the quarterback, stuffing the run, and causing turnovers. Once his $20 million price tag comes down just a bit, Howie Roseman should pounce and give Philly arguably the best defensive line in football.
