Eagles Sign Another Cornerback to Practice Squad Amid Disastrous Injuries to Secondary
By Chris Russo
It's a word the Philadelphia Eagles' secondary knows all too well: depleted.
The Eagles' secondary is banged up enough that they've signed yet another cornerback to their practice squad.
Five of the Eagles' top six cornerbacks entering the season are injured, forcing them to release cornerback Ajene Harris from the practice squad and replace him with Ryan Lewis.
Lewis has played 10 career games over the course of two seasons with the Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts. Even though he started seven games in Buffalo last year, 68.4% of passes targeted at him were completed. His biggest career accomplishment is probably his two forced fumbles, which could help in the run game.
Thursday night's victory over the Green Bay Packers was the setting when Avonte Maddox suffered a concussion from a brutal helmet-to-helmet hit.
With Jalen Mills on the PUP list and Ronald Darby likely out for a month with a hamstring injury, this is much bigger news than it would normally be.
Philly did make a move in signing Orlando Scandrick, but 32 is not a ripe age for the average football player, especially one that has to keep up with speedy receivers.
