Eagles Defensive Line is Scary After Signing Former Stud Steelers NT Javon Hargrave
By Jerry Trotta
The Philadelphia Eagles have just made a huge free agency splash to bolster their defensive line.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported on Monday night that Philly inked an agreement with former Pittsburgh Steelers star defensive tackle Jason Hargrave. The deal is reported to be worth $39 million over three years and includes $26 million guaranteed, making the 27-year-old the highest-paid nose tackle in the NFL.
What a get for general manager Howie Roseman.
The Steelers would have loved to retain Hargrave, but their salary cap constraints crippled them to the point where they couldn't meet his demands. Instead, the franchise confirmed what reports have indicated for the better part of a month and franchise-tagged linebacker Bud Dupree.
Speaking on his new home, Hargrave will fit perfectly alongside veterans Fletcher Cox and Malik Jackson in the trenches. In four seasons with Pittsburgh, the former third-round pick registered 168 combined tackles, 14.5 sacks, 22 quarterback hits, and two forced fumbles.
If this move is any indication as to how aggressive the Eagles will be this offseason, fans in the City of Brotherly Love are in for a real treat.
