A week ago, the Philadelphia Eagles locked in a key piece of their special teams squad in Rick Lovato. On Wednesday, the Eagles extended another pivotal special teams player.

The Eagles announced they signed kicker Jake Elliott to a five-year contract extension, set to expire at the conclusion of the 2024 season. Elliott is set to make $21.8 million in total, with $10.45 million in guaranteed money, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Elliott was originally a 2017 fifth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals, but was placed on the team's practice squad after training camp. The Eagles jumped at the opportunity to sign Elliott, especially since then-kicker Caleb Sturgis hit injured reserve.

The gamble paid off for the Eagles, as they won their first-ever Super Bowl in Elliott's rookie year.

This season, Elliott is a perfect 14-for-14 on field goal attempts and 21-of-23 on point after attempts. In his career, Elliott has successfully kicked 66 field goals on 76 attempts, while making 93-of-100 extra points.

Special teams can make or break an NFL team, and with Jake Elliott set to hit restricted free agency, the Philadelphia Eagles made a concerted effort to lock him in for the foreseeable future.

Mission accomplished.
