This Eagles-Texans Trade for CB Rasul Douglas Makes Sense
By Jerry Trotta
The Philadelphia Eagles landed star cornerback Darius Slay in a trade with the Detroit Lions this week, and it would appear that the team is working fast to make its secondary less crowded.
Per ProFootballTalk, the Eagles are shopping 2017 third-round pick Rasul Douglas. The fourth-year cornerback out of West Virginia played a higher percentage of snaps on special teams (58%) than on defense (57%) last season, so it makes sense why Philadelphia is pondering a trade for the 24-year-old.
Luckily for general manager Howie Roseman, there's one potential trade partner that is a perfect match: the Houston Texans.
With Bill O'Brien running the show in Houston, the Eagles could probably get more than what Douglas is actually worth, even if that is just a third- or fourth-round draft pick. After all, the Texans still have to address the cornerback position even after signing Bradley Roby to a new contract.
In fact, the only relevant move that Houston has made to its secondary thus far was releasing Vernon Hargreaves, who appeared in six games for the team in 2019 after he was picked up shortly after the Bucs cut him loose last season.
The Eagles aren't going to cut a young corner who is set to make just $2.1 million in 2020 before he becomes a free agent next year. Trading Douglas to the Texans for a mid-round draft pick makes all the sense in the world considering how it well help both sides.
