3 Worst Contracts on the Eagles' Payroll Right Now
By Michael Luciano
The Philadelphia Eagles have spent money pretty wisely over the last few years, as star players like Carson Wentz, Fletcher Cox and Zach Ertz have all been signed to long-term deals that haven't handicapped the team financially.
However, every team has the unsightly deals you wish you could scrub off of the payroll, and Philly is no exception. These three contracts are certainly ones that Howie Roseman would like a mulligan on.
3. WR DeSean Jackson
Jackson, a fan-favorite in Philadelphia, made his long-awaited return to the City of Brotherly Love, but his planned grand second act saw him limited to just nine catches in three games of action. Injuries robbed Jackson of almost his entire age-33 season, and paying him a total of $14.4 million over the next two years with almost $17 million in dead cap is the definition of a bad deal. The only way Jackson can rectify this is by making us forget about his contract with his play on the field.
2. DT Malik Jackson
Jackson's three-year, $30 million deal that will only see him take a $4.5 million cap hit this season doesn't look too bad on the surface. However, when you look at the fine print of Jackson's deal, you realize that his contract gives the Eagles nearly $30 million of dead cap to deal with over the next two seasons, including $17.2 million this season. All of this for a guy who will be turning 30 this season and played just in one game last season. Safe to say that amount of money could've been better spent elsewhere.
1. WR Alshon Jeffrey
Jeffrey carries nearly $26 million in dead cap next season, so trading this ridiculous contract is almost an impossible task. If he were producing, those concerns could be mitigated, but he's falling short of expectations. He's missed nine games over the last two years and has failed to top 843 yards in three years as an Eagle. Throw into that the possibility that he was the anonymous source taking shots at Carson Wentz, and you get a true nightmare scenario for Roseman.
