Early Eli Manning Practice Report Already Sounds Like a Disaster
By Charles Nason
It looks like things really can still get worse for New York Giants veteran quarterback Eli Manning.
Heading into the 2019 NFL Draft, it was clear that the G-Men were looking to select a quarterback to be Manning's successor. After the team selected former Duke quarterback Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick, it became even more evident that the veteran's job was in jeopardy sooner rather than later. And with the Giants' offseason workouts having begun, the battle for the starting quarterback position is in full swing-- at least it should be given Manning's painful struggles.
With the first wave of practice reports spilling in for the Giants, Manning's deficiencies are more apparent than ever. Completing just one of his first six pass attempts to go along with two interceptions, the longtime franchise signal-caller is proving that his tenure in New York may come to an end sooner than anyone expected.
Although the majority of Giants fans were disappointed with the team's decision to draft Jones as high as No. 6 overall, it seems as though the former Duke star is the best option they have at the quarterback position.
Despite Manning's struggles over the past few seasons, the Giants have remained loyal to the 37 year-old, as he's been with the team for 15 seasons. It's still unclear who will ultimately be the Giants' starting quarterback will be come August, though head coach Pat Shurmur did insist it's Eli's job.
He may have to re-evaluate that opinion if the guy keeps struggling this mightily, however.
