Edgardo Alfonzo Lashes Out at Mets for Decision to Fire Him as Cyclones Manager
By Parker White

Last month, New York Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen decided to fire Brooklyn Cyclones manager Edgardo Alfonzo, who was a fan favorite during his eight years with the team.
That came after he led the minor league team to a championship in 2019, which made fans think that he might get the big league job. The Mets hired Carlos Beltran instead and, according to Van Wagenen, they let Alfonzo go because of a "player development" problem.
Brodie Van Wagenen on replacing Edgardo Alfonzo as manager at Class A Brooklyn: "[It] was a player development decision and we just want to keep ourselves on the path of putting the players in the best situation."

As you can imagine, Alfonzo isn't thrilled about that reasoning.

Alfonzo writes on Instagram that he has met with Jeff Wilpon & might stay with Mets as an ambassador, but he prefers to work in uniform. pic.twitter.com/LeK8PolrYU
In an Instagram post, Alfonzo said that he spoke to Jeff Wilpon and they wanted to keep him in the organization as an Ambassador. However, Alfonzo indicated that he prefers to be in uniform.
Alfonzo also noted that management "wants their own people" and that he's not taking the decision personally. Credit to Alfonzo for taking the high road, as you can understand his frustration after he won a championship and was canned rather than promoted.
