Edwin Encarnacion Reportedly Signs One-Year Deal With the White Sox
By Karl Rasmussen
The Chicago White Sox are serious about making a playoff push in 2020, and the team is opening up its wallet this offseason in order to make the leap.
According to Jon Heyman, the White Sox are nearing an agreement with yet another coveted free agent, veteran slugger Edwin Encarnacion. The deal is reportedly for one year and is expected to be worth $12 million.
Rick Hahn is clearly not playing around this winter. The Indians seem on the verge of a rebuild, and the White Sox are waiting in the wings ready to jump them in the AL Central.
Encarnacion represents just the latest in a plethora of offseason acquisitions which have transformed the White Sox roster from a sub-.500 club into possible World Series contenders.
The 36-year-old will join the likes of Yasmani Grandal, Zack Wheeler, Dallas Keuchel and Nomar Mazara as newcomers to the South Side.
Encarnacion will supply the Sox with top-tier power in the heart of their order, and will likely feature most frequently as the team's DH.
In 2019, the veteran slashed .244/.344/.531 with 34 home runs and 86 RBI, splitting time between the Mariners and Yankees.
