Electric Yankees Top Prospect Estevan Florial Comes off IL for Season Debut Monday
By Adam Weinrib
Well, that's one way to wake up an off day!
Yankees top prospect Estevan Florial has yet to appear in a contest so far this minor league season after sustaining a wrist fracture attempting to make a catch midway through Spring Training. Though the minor league injury cycle makes less forthright news than big league recovery, that only makes these seemingly-sudden returns more surprising. Ladies and gentlemen, he's back! Just like that?
Florial leads off Monday night in his 2019 debut, hoping to build on a 2018 season where he rocketed to Yankees No. 1 prospect status, shrugging off a different kind of wrist injury to hit .255 with a .354 OBP at High-A Tampa.
The remainder of this year will be huge for Florial's development. Let's see if he can join the Baby Bombers ahead of schedule in September, or at least prove he belongs in Double-A Trenton.
