Emmitt Smith's 4-Star Son EJ Names Florida and Georgia Among Top 5 Schools
By Scott Rogust
Emmitt Smith made a name for himself as one of the greatest running backs of all time. And now, the bloodline continues on. His son, EJ, is a 4-star high school prospect steadily narrowing down his collegiate options, and his ultimate decision could end up pretty close to home.
EJ sent out a tweet on Sunday announcing that he narrowed down his top five schools to Ohio State, Texas A&M, Georgia, Stanford, and Florida, his dad's alma mater.
If you're counting, that's three SEC schools that will be vying for the services of EJ Smith. You had better believe that there will be some serious competition for the Dallas native's services.
Smith first made a name for himself in his sophomore season at Dallas Jesuit when he rushed for 1,177 yards and 24 touchdowns while tallying 540 receiving yards and 7 scores. This past season, he recorded 890 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground while catching 40 passes for 478 yards and 5 scores.
In the 2020 recruiting class, Smith ranks as the 126th overall prospect in the nation, the fourth-best among all-purpose backs, and the 19th overall recruit in Texas, via 247Sports' composite rankings.
The team that holds the advantage in the EJ Smith sweepstakes is Stanford with a 50% chance, according to 247's "Crystal Ball" predictions. However, official visits will certainly stand to change that in some form or fashion.
So, will Smith follow his dad's footsteps to Gainesville? Will he send Gator Nation into a conniption by opting for the Dawgs? This thing is about to heat up.
