Enes Kanter Has Passionate and Spot-on Response to LeBron's Comments on China
By Chris Russo
If anybody in the NBA knows about a lack of justice and a history of mistreatment by his country, it's Enes Kanter.
After Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey created a media firestorm between the NBA and China, LeBron James gave an opposing view, which Kanter, in turn, criticized via Twitter Monday.
James told the media Monday he didn't believe Morey was "educated" on the situation between China and protestors from Hong Kong.
Kanter responded by listing a series of punishments his home country of Turkey has put upon his family, especially after he said the country imprisoned his father for speaking out against its president.
Two men claiming to support the Turkish president confronted Kanter and teammate Tacko Fall after they prayed at a mosque. Kanter also avoided traveling to London with the Knicks out of fear, and supported a coup to overthrow the Turkish government. Yet, Kanter's tweet above likely stemmed from these comments by James.
The NBA has profited off China thanks to some of their athletes and overseas production of Nike sneakers. However, simply stating that Morey is misinformed completely whiffs on the point, and doesn't address the issue whatsoever.
Kanter understands what it's like to face persecution, and certainly isn't falling for James' PR speech.
