Eric Bieniemy Needs to Shut Down Colorado Rumors Once and for All
By Michael Luciano
Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has been considered a favorite for the head coaching job at Colorado, his alma mater, after Mel Tucker left for Michigan State.
Bieniemy has not denied interest in the position, and he remains a top candidate.
Bieniemy, a legendary Buffaloes running back that won a championship under head coach Bill McCartney, was interviewed for several head coaching jobs in the NFL over the last few years, and his interest is only going to grow now that he helped Mahomes and the Chiefs win a championship. Because of this, he needs to turn down his old school's offer.
Would you really want to give up a chance to lead an NFL team for the opportunity to go 6-6 and play in the Cheez-It Bowl every year? Sounds like a rotten trade-off.
The Chiefs have shown that they are the best in the league at promoting from within to replace offensive coordinators (quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka or wide receivers coach Greg Lewis would be the two favorites to replace Bieniemy), but that doesn't mean they should accept let Bieniemy walk. He could be in line for a head coaching job in the NFL in short order, and he isn't going to get that at Boulder bar an incredible rise to the top of the conference.
