Eric Ebron Signing Gives Steelers Weapon They've Been Lacking Since Heath Miller Retired
By Michael Luciano
The Indianapolis Colts chose Jack Doyle as their tight end for the next few years when they gave him a big contract extension, and in the process kicked 2018 breakout star Eric Ebron to the curb.
Ebron's rare athleticism for the position landed him another job relatively quickly, having reportedly signed a two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Selected 10th overall by the Detroit Lions in 2014, Ebron revitalized his career after a move to Indianapolis in 2018, catching 13 touchdowns with Andrew Luck at quarterback. The former North Carolina Tar Heel never got in a rhythm with Jacoby Brissett, recording just 31 receptions for 375 yards and three touchdowns last season.
While Vance McDonald is certainly a quality tight end, he lacks the speed in the open field and red zone expertise that Ebron offers. Since Heath Miller retired, the Steelers have been searching for answers at the tight end position, and Ebron could finally put those worries to bed.
If Ebron is able to turn back the clock and play like it's 2018, the Steelers might have stolen a quality tight end for a relatively cheap price, and another elite weapon for Ben Roethlisberger to target upon his return. Due to his health, however, that could prove difficult to do for the 26-year-old.
