Eric Hosmer-Salvador Perez Reunion Photo Before Spring Training Battle Will Make Royals Fans Emotional
By Scott Rogust
The Kansas City Royals had the potential of becoming the league's next dynasty. But that never panned out, due to a slew of players entering contract years concurrently, among other things. The beginning of the end was when Eric Hosmer left KC to sign a massive eight-year, $144 million contract with the San Diego Padres back in 2018.
Two years later, Hosmer finally had a bit of a reunion. Prior to Monday's Spring Training game between the Royals and Padres, Hosmer caught up with a former teammate in catcher Salvador Perez, and took a heartwarming photo.
Millions of Royals fans were just simultaneously hit in the feels.
As is the case with any player who leaves for a lucrative contract, plenty of Royals fans thanked Hosmer for the memories, while others viewed him as a "traitor."
After a down first season in San Diego, Hosmer bounced back in a huge way last season. In 160 games, Hosmer posted a .265 batting average and .735 OPS, along with 22 homers and 99 RBI, which were his most since his 2016 campaign with the Royals (104).
This is a preview of things to come, as Hosmer makes his official return to Kansas City on July 24.
