Even if Bucs Can't Sign Tom Brady, Booting Jameis Winston is Like Winning the Super Bowl

The Tennessee Titans were considered a sleeper destination in the Tom Brady sweepstakes by a variety of analysts. Then, the organization inked Ryan Tannehill to a monster contract extension.

That bombshell leaves the likes of the New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Las Vegas Raiders as the three favorites to land the 42-year-old quarterback this offseason.

Speaking just for the Bucs, general manger Jason Licht's one and only focus this offseason should be ridding the franchise of Jameis Winston. After all, even if Tampa Bay fails to land Brady, giving Winston the boot is practically the same as hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.

To all of the Winston apologists out there, who hurt you? The fundamental laws of football state that throwing 30 interceptions is not a recipe for winning games. And please do not refute that claim by saying that the former No. 1 overall pick threw for over 5,000 yards and 33 touchdowns.

The Buccaneers' run game was an atrocity. As was the team's secondary. Winston was either throwing to keep up or padding his stats in garbage time. And every time Tampa was in a position for Winston to be conservative, he'd inexplicably turn the pigskin over.

Assuming the Buccaneers doesn't pursue him, letting Winston hit the open market is the right move for the franchise. Now, Licht can turn his attention to convincing Brady to play with star pass catchers Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and OJ Howard in sunny Tampa.

Even if Licht fails, he'll be able to sleep knowing he won't have to witness Winston be the opposing team's best player for another season.
