Every NFL Team That Has Never Made the Super Bowl
By Ian Anderson
Super Bowl Sunday is just around the corner and the Kansas City Chiefs have made it back to the big game for the first time in 50 years. While that drought may be an absurd amount of time, there are some teams that have never made it in their long, or short, existences as a franchise. Here is a list of all the teams that never made it to the Super Bowl.
Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns have been the joke of the NFL for a vast majority of the Super Bowl era, including pulling off only the second-ever 0-16 season.
Despite having multiple NFL Championships, the Browns have not made it to a Super Bowl. The closest that they have gotten was during a span from 1986-1989 when they lost in the AFC Championship three out of four years.
Detroit Lions
As bad as the Browns have been, the Detroit Lions have been infinitely worse. The Lions are the only other team that boasts an 0-16 season, being the first to ever accomplish the feat back in the 2008-2009 season.
The furthest that Detroit has gone in the playoffs is the NFC Championship, having only made it there once in the Super Bowl era. What is even more depressing is how they wasted the careers of generational talents like Calvin Johnson and Barry Sanders.
Houston Texans
Despite being the NFL's youngest team, the Texans have gotten significantly closer to reaching the Super Bowl than both the Browns and Lions combined in their short existence. With Deshaun Watson at the helm the franchise looks closer to making it to the big game than ever.
Houston has made the Divisional Round four times in their team's history, all of which have come in the past nine years. Pretty good for a team that has been around all of 18 seasons and missed the playoffs their first nine years of existence.
Jacksonville Jaguars
In the Jaguars' 25-year existence they've only made the playoffs seven times. However, they made it all the way to the AFC Championship in three of those seven seasons.
Their most recent venture to the AFC Championship was back in the 2017-2018 season, with their fluke team led by Blake Bortles and a stout defense. Given their current quarterback situation, it might be a little while before we see Jacksonville remotely close to that position again.
