Ex-Browns Safety Jermaine Whitehead Apologizes for Tweets Attacking Fans in Latest Instagram Post
By Chris Russo
Now-former Cleveland Browns safety Jermaine Whitehead is trying to make amends for the series of inappropriate tweets that cost him his job this weekend.
Whitehead responded poorly to critics after he failed to make a tackle in Sunday's game in Denver, causing the team to release him after a series of threatening and inappropriate tweets sealed his fate.
Now that all's said and done, he's taken to Instagram to apologize.
Whitehead made the thorough apology on Instagram after Twitter suspended his account due to his initial remarks.
The safety also said he was playing with a broken hand, though also reiterated that he was not using that as an excuse for his words. He then apologized and offered best wishes to the Browns organization.
Whitehead played every snap with the Browns defense on Sunday, yet still did not make a single tackle in the 24-19 loss to the Broncos.
He sent the series of responses within 15 minutes of the end of the game, and threatened fans and reporters alike, using foul language and calling a reporter by a racial epithet.
Whitehead was in his second season with the Browns, and had started every game this year. The Auburn product recorded one interception and two passes defensed this season.
