Ex-Giants and University of Kentucky QB Jared Lorenzen Dies at Age 38
By Parker White

On Wednesday afternoon, reports came in that one of the most unforgettable men every to play the quarterback position had departed far, far too soon. Former New York Giants quarterback Jared Lorenzen has died at the age of 38 following an extended battle with various health issues.
In a text to my colleague @RussDinallo, who produced our E:60 story on Jared Lorenzen, Lorenzen's mother Janet confirmed that Jared died today. He was only 38. Janet said, "I lost my sweet boy today after a long hard fight."

Lorenzen, a Kentucky Wildcat great who was a member of the Giants' Super Bowl XLII champion team, was not only known for his arm strength, but his larger-than-life frame. Listed at 6-4 and weighing in upwards of 300 pounds at the height of his playing career, he eventually was reported to weigh over 500 pounds after his playing days were over.
He did lose over 100 pounds last year in an attempt to take his health into his own hands, but sadly, life caught up with him long before it should have been his time His family later confirmed the news of his passing.

As of yesterday, Lorenzen was said to be doing reasonably better, but still had a tough road ahead of him, as he was still on dialysis and was dealing with cardiac and renal issues. Tragically, that road ended today.
Lorenzen didn't have a long NFL career, but his place in football lore is sealed. He holds multiple passing records at Kentucky, and in so many other ways, there's never been anyone quite like him. There's good reason to believe we'll never see his equal ever again. Our best wishes are with Lorenzen's family at this most difficult of times.
