It's safe to say Stephen Strasburg is on top of the world right now. Not only did his Nationals pull off an incredible upset to win the World Series, but he was rewarded World Series MVP for his dominant performances throughout.

In fact, Strasburg's value is so high right now that he was able to opt out of the remaining four years and $100 million on his contract to seek an even more lucrative deal.

So, every front office is going to throw as much money possible at the former No. 1 pick, right? Well, according to ex-Mets GM Steve Phillips, Strasburg isn't worth as much as he thinks he is.

Phillips emphasized that a player who is expected to make over $30 million a year needs to be predictable in terms of how much they play. Strasburg has an extensive injury history, which has been well documented.

While Strasburg has demonstrated he's as good as anyone when healthy, there's still so much risk for a team when giving him that much money. You can't have a guy making as much as Gerrit Cole, while also spending most of the season on the IL. No risk, no reward, though. Strasburg will end up getting paid. But, who will end up writing the check?
