Ex-Pitcher Dan Haren Believes Modern MLB Players Will Celebrate Mike Fiers' Whistleblowing
By Michael Luciano

The Houston Astros have been in the line of fire over the last few weeks after it was made public the depths of their sign-stealing escapades, and it's hard to argue that they don't deserve one minute of the grilling they're getting. Oakland Athletics starter Mike Fiers, who was an Astro in 2017, can be credited with blowing the whistle and kicking this whole thing off a few months ago.
While some around the league, including prominent former players like Pedro Martinez, have given Fiers a frosty reception, former MLB starter Dan Haren seems to think that the whistleblower will be lauded as a hero.
I’m 5 years removed from baseball but I’m still in the clubhouse quite a bit. Id be shocked if an overwhelming majority of players aren’t appreciative of Fiers did. To think he will be ostracized is crazy, it’s old school thinking or an opinion of someone who’s never played

Fiers posted a 4.59 ERA in 70 games with the Astros before he made the jump to Oakland. He certainly has 25 less friends in the league after letting the league know what the Astros were doing, but sometime standing up for the integrity of the game is worth it in the long run, and history should look on him pretty favorably.
The only acceptable take on Mike Fiers goes like this:

Thank you for putting your own name on the line to help baseball eliminate one of its most embarrassing scandals in history.
End of story.
Fiers should be lauded for blowing the lid off of one of the biggest scandals in MLB history. He risked his own personal reputation within the league and within the locker rooms he finds himself in, and the game is better off for it.
