Ezekiel Elliott Reportedly Close to Signing Monster 6-Year Contract Extension With Cowboys

The wait may finally be over.
With contract talks reportedly heating up between Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys, the two sides are finally nearing an agreement, in part because Jerry Jones was able to sign La'el Collins to an extension on Tuesday morning, freeing up more cap space in the process.
Elliott's holdout appears to have reached its primary goal of making Zeke the highest-paid player at his position.

If this number is correct, Elliott would be making $15 million per season, putting him above Todd Gurley's mark of $13.125 million. Considering Elliott's value to Dallas' offense and his age, it's not surprising that he would earn such an unprecedented deal despite the declining value of running backs in the NFL.

Elliott has long stated his goal is to reset the market for running backs, and with some impressive deals being handed out to Gurley and even Le'Veon Bell this offseason, the Zeke extension is just the cherry on top for all future elite bellcows in need of deals and the agents who represent them.

The deal, as it currently stands, is not officially done, but with the regular season a mere days away, both sides have a newfound sense of urgency. If all goes well, Jason Garrett and Co. might have Elliott ready for Week 1 against the New York Giants after all.
