Ezekiel Elliott Reportedly Flying From Cabo to Dallas as Cowboys Contract Talks Heat up
By Karl Rasmussen
There's little time remaining until the 2019 NFL season gets underway and the biggest question around the league is whether or not Ezekiel Elliott will suit up for the Cowboys in Week 1. The star running back has been holding out from the team and training in Cabo as he seeks a deal to make him the highest-paid running back in the league. But it looks like he's set to return home.
According to Ian Rapoport, Zeke is flying back to Dallas in order to be available should he and the team agree to a new deal. Rapoport insists the deal is not yet completed and that obstacles remain, but this certainly makes it seem like Zeke is motivated to put pen to paper.
The Cowboys locked up OT La'el Collins on a five-year extension, but there's certainly room for new deals for Zeke as well as Amari Cooper and Dak Prescott.
With Elliott back in the country, hopefully the negotiation process will expedite and the star running back can get back on the practice field with his teammates ahead of their season opener against the Giants.
The latest reported obstacles in his deal were regarding average annual value and guaranteed money, so if the two sides can hastily come to terms on those aspects of his contract, perhaps we could see the 2018 rushing leader in Week 1.
It looks like we're entering the final stretch of these negotiations, and hopefully the next reports to surface are that of a done deal.
