Ezekiel Elliott Reveals Expected Workload for Week 2 Against Redskins
By Scott Rogust
After a summer of uncertainty, the Dallas Cowboys and running back Ezekiel Elliott got a deal done in the form of a six-year, $90 million contract extension. During the Cowboys' season opener against the New York Giants, Elliott split carries with rookie Tony Pollard while he ramped up his game condition.
Ahead of Dallas' Week 2 matchup against the Washington Redskins, Elliott told reporters that he's ready for his normal workload.
"I'm ready for a normal workload, depending on GB (running backs coach Gary Brown), coach (Jason) Garrett and (offensive coordinator) Kellen (Moore) are feeling on Sunday,'' said Elliott, via the Dallas Cowboys' official website. "But if they ask me, I'll be able to go out there and do it.
The Cowboys coaching staff wanted to take things slow with Elliott, not risking a chance of a soft tissue injury, considering he missed all of training camp while working out in Cabo San Lucas.
In Week 1, Elliott rushed 13 times for 53 yards and a touchdown, while adding a reception for 10 yards. Pollard was less impressive, rushing 13 times for just 24 yards.
If Elliott is granted a full workload, as he claims to be, he has a favorable matchup against a Redskins defense that surrendered 123 yards on 31 carries to the Philadelphia Eagles this past Sunday.
Week 2 may be time for Zeke to start eating once again.
