Falcons Reportedly Sign Veteran Kicker Matt Bryant Out of Retirement
By Jerry Trotta
Did anybody else have a hunch Matt Bryant's retirement wouldn't last very long? After all, the Baylor product was coming off another stellar campaign with the Atlanta Falcons, during which he drilled 20 of 21 field goal attempts, including going 4-for-5 from 50 yards and beyond.
Well, Adam Schefter understands that the Falcons have persuaded the 44-year-old to postpone his retirement for his 18th NFL season.
Since Money Matt announced that he was calling it a career, Atlanta has struggled to find a competent leg to fill the profound hole that he left in his wake.
As a result, the franchise invited the former Pro Bowler in for a workout on Thursday to see what he had left in the tank.
The Falcons had an audacious plan of rolling out former (and now loathed) Vikings kicker Blair Walsh, but he practically forced Atlanta's hand after missing five straight kicks in practice this week.
What matters here, however, is that Bryant, the leading scorer in Falcons franchise history with 1,122 points, will continue calling Mercedes-Benz Stadium his home for at least one more season.
