Fan Sues Mets After Nearly Being Blinded by T-Shirt Cannon
By Chris Russo
The 2019 campaign was a complete and total nightmare for the New York Mets. After once again missing the postseason, fans have been voicing their displeasure for months now.
But, as it turns out, the play on the diamond wasn't the only frightening scene from the games at Citi Field. Yup, even folks in the stands faced some pretty bad luck:
Mets fan Alex Swanson, 54, is suing the team after a shot from a t-shirt cannon gave him a concussion and left his retina dangling, as confirmed by a CAT scan he got on June 6, one day after the accident.
The Long Islander says the Mets have offered him free tickets, but he did not accept, and he is now suing the organization. The Mets have yet to give comment.
Believe it or not, this is not the first time something like this has happened.
T-shirt cannon accidents also reach beyond Major League Baseball. Granted, this one did not necessitate legal intervention, but it definitely still hurt:
The Mets' off-field woes continue, and their playoff dreams might go away next year anyway. This lawsuit is simply the epitome of their season. After a horrific June and an imploding Edwin Diaz, they fell well behind the lead in both the NL East and for a Wild Card spot.
Things just keep going from bad to worse for this club.
