Fanatics Turns MLB Jerseys Into Medical Equipment in Incredible Gesture During Coronavirus Crisis
By Brendan Balsamo

Amidst the completely unprecedented coronavirus epidemic, hospitals have been asking for assistance in terms of getting medical supplies and equipment, as they're currently overrun with patients, far beyond expected capacity.
In order to assist with the effort, Fanatics, a sports merchandise retailer, is repurposing their factories to create medical equipment for hospitals out of the same material that they'd usually use to make baseball jerseys.

Woke up in the middle of the night last week with idea of converting our @Fanatics factory in PA that makes official @MLB jerseys into a facility that makes much needed masks and gowns and then donating them to help fight this horrendous virus. pic.twitter.com/r6FAxUdlgH
This truly is an incredible gesture by the online retailer. The executive chairman of Fanatics, Michael Rubin, had the idea of using the jerseys as medical masks and gowns, and halted production on MLB gear in an effort to seamlessly transition his factories to a much more timely purpose.
According to Rubin's Twitter thread, Fanatics will be making one million masks and gowns out of their excess fabric, and will donate and distribute them to emergency workers in Pennsylvania first, then to hospitals in the New York and New Jersey area if all goes smoothly.
and plan to make one million masks and gowns then immediately donate and distribute them to hospitals and emergency management personnel across PA with the goal of extending this to NJ and NY – the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in the US!!

This is exactly the type of gesture that the world needs right now. It's a unifying gesture between the sports and manufacturing world and the medical world. Huge props to Rubin and Fanatics are in order for this move.
