In the latest news regarding NCAA athletes (or their families in this case) breaking the rules, John Paul Funes has plead guilty to embezzling money from a local charity, Our Lady of the Lake Foundation (OLOL). He could face up to two decades in prison for one count of money laundering and one count of wire fraud.
Funes used some of those funds to give $180K to James Alexander, the father of former First Team All-SEC honoree and LSU offensive lineman Vadal Alexander.
LSU did not have much to say on the matter, but former coach Les Miles did deny any knowledge of money changing hands. Athletic Director Robert Munson delivered the following statement on behalf of the university in regards to the situation:
“LSU was made aware of specific allegations by OLOL officials in late 2018 and made that information immediately available to the NCAA. As this is an ongoing inquiry, LSU will have no further comment,” said Munson.

According to social media, Alexander is a self-employed entrepreneur residing in Atlanta.
Drafted with pick No. 243 in the Round 7 of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders, Alexander's son signed a four-year, $2.41 million contract with a signing bonus of $76,846 that May.
His tenure didn't last long. Fast forward two years into his time with the Raiders, and Alexander got suspended the first four games of the regular season for violating the league’s drug policy. He was later waived by the organization on July 31, 2018, after not showing up to training camp.
