Lane Kiffin Reportedly 'Vetted' for FSU Coaching Job and That Sounds Like a Disaster
By Michael Luciano
Quick question for the Florida State fans out there: Have you always had your eyes set on a coach that has gone 24-13 in Conference USA in the last three years? No?
Well, too bad! You might get Lane Kiffin anyway.
The lightning rod head coach is currently putting the finishing touches on his third season as the top man at Florida Atlantic. And now that Willie Taggart has but the dust in Tallahassee, the Seminoles have reportedly "vetted" Kiffin for their head coaching job.
Because, as we all know, Kiffin has a great track record at Power 5 schools.
After getting a golden parachute courtesy of the Tennessee Volunteers following his firing as Oakland Raiders head coach in 2008, Kiffin was 7-6 during his single season in Knoxville before bolting for USC shortly after.
Kiffin went just 28-15 at USC, with 10 of those wins coming in 2011, his only solid campaign there.
Kiffin has also reportedly expressed interest in replacing Chad Morris as Arkansas head coach, which is probably more his speed. Expectations in Fayetteville have gotten pretty low, after all.
While going 24-13 at an unassuming place like Florida Atlantic coupled with sending several players to the pros is nothing to sneeze at, it's hardly enough to qualify you for a job with the kind of pressure and demands FSU presents.
We've seen Kiffin with his hands on a blue blood program twice, and he has had exactly ONE good season. Is this really the guy to turn Florida State around? Stay away, Noles.
