Financial Details of Eagles' Potential Trade of Alshon Jeffery Explained
By Brendan Balsamo

Alshon Jeffery has been the bane of Philadelphia Eagles fans' existence ever since he dropped a Nick Foles pass that fell right into the hands of Marshon Lattimore to seal the 2019 NFC Divisional Round game.
Since then, he's never been fully healthy, and his absence helped seal Philadelphia's fate often during the 2019 regular season.
Now, the Eagles are exploring a potential Jeffery trade, as his costs compound. However, it's not as cut and dried as it may seem. There are some meaningful financial implications to trading Jeffery.
If the Eagles trade Alshon Jeffery under the current CBA, they would still owe $16.2 million in dead money on their cap. Jeffery’s cap hit if he stays and plays is $15.7 million.

Whoever acquired Jeffery would be getting him on a two-year, $23.2 million deal.
If the Eagles trade Jeffery, they'll owe him $500,000 more than if they simply kept him. No matter what, Jeffery impacts the cap. Factoring in the apparently less than amicable relationship he had with starting quarterback Carson Wentz, the price might be worth sending him off.
“League sources told The Athletic that Wentz and Jeffery never saw eye-to-eye and their relationship was testy.”

Jeffery and the Eagles both apparently want him out of Philly. According to The Athletic, he would "welcome the change of scenery."
Alshon Jeffery appreciation post.#Eagles fans are building a habit of hating the ones who helped us win our 1st Lombardi. Beyond me. & I get it, his time is up imo but there’ll be no slander. pic.twitter.com/qb5pwzG2WJ

Jeffery did play a key role in bringing the Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia for the first time in the team's history, but his time with the Eagles appears to be up. Whether his trade is worth $500,000 or not, the wideout's three-year stint in Philly is rapidly coming to a close.
