VIDEO: Floyd Mayweather Wants You to Let Him Know if He Should Buy Newcastle United
By Scott Rogust
Retired boxer Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. has made millions upon millions of dollars throughout his career, and he's never been afraid to flex his bank account in others' faces. Given all the houses, cars, jets, and jewelry, many have speculated that he could eventually be the kind of guy who'd purchase a professional sports teams. For many years, Mayweather has teased the thought of buying English Premier League team Newcastle United, but during a question-and-answer session in Newcastle on Sunday, Mayweather asked fans if he should go through with buying a majority stake in Magpies.
Newcastle United's owner, British billionaire Mike Ashley, has reportedly been open to selling the team for the past few years, but he's yet to find a buyer. He reportedly received a bid from Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman back in January, but talks have since died down.
After this clip went viral, TMZ reached out to Mayweather's representatives about the seriousness of his statement, to which they replied that he's "very interested" in purchasing the club. However, it's unknown how much the ex-boxer is willing to spend, or how large of an ownership stake he'd pursue.
Will Mayweather put his money where his mouth is and purchase his very own soccer team, or is it just talk from the famously braggadocious, undefeated fighter? With him, it's usually hard to know.
